“BOP has just filled an important gap, that of contemporary chamber opera. In the light of this solid – indeed must-see – production, we can only wish long life to this young company and its brilliant artistic vision. Without a doubt, their original and essential offerings will bring much dynamism to Montreal’s lyric scene.”
A coproduction with ECM+ and presented at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, Images de Sappho is the first achievement of BOP’s aims with regard to Dance performances. Indeed, the “operatorio” Orpheus on Sappho’s Shore by the Montreal composer Luna Pearl Woolf was presented with an original choreography and stage production by Emmanuelle Lussier-Martinez. The show was also the opportunity to discover Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Five Images after Sappho, of which this was the Canadian premiere.
